Taking my boy's hand in mine, I guide him up from the floor to standing. He's naked from the waist down since I didn't worry about removing his shirt. His eyes watch me like he's waiting for his next instruction. It's a powerful feeling to know I already have this level of trust from him. Especially when we're so new.

“This way, Angel,” I tell him as I walk us over to the changing table. I pull out the bottom stair, then hold his hand as he climbs on.

He lays back on the table with the help of my guiding hand and tightly squeezes the bear in his arms. I open the top drawer to gather the supplies I need. Wipes, powder, and clean underwear. I don't worry about trying to put him in a diaper or a pull up today. That might be too far, and I'm not willing to chance him calling out his safe word this early. Not when I can simply pace myself and my urges.

I hum a simple tune as I warm the wipes between my hands. My angel stays quiet as he watches, and he only squirms a tiny bit when I rub the wet cloth over him to clean up the last of the mess we made. Once I've got that done, I sprinkle a few taps of baby powder over him and rub it in. The scent drifts through the air, making me feel a bit teary-eyed from the reality of this moment. I can't believe my boy is here, and he's letting me do all this for him.

When it comes time for the underwear, I hold up the pair to his line of sight. “Daddy bought these for his one day - someday boy. They've never been worn, and I only took them out of the package this morning. Can you lift your feet and hips when I need you to so I can slide them on?”

He nods as he uses the bear to hide most of his face. I grin at him before doing just as I said I would. The pale-yellow briefs go up his legs until they fit nicely over his bottom. I tuck his semi-hard length inside, then ease the band to his waist so it doesn't snap.

“There we go. My angel is all clean and ready for his nap. Come now.” I hold my hand out to help him down.

Together, we make our way over to the crib. I pull the side down and tug away the pile of blankets in the same shade of yellow as his underwear. My angel climbs right in and settles against the pillow. I notice his finger hovering near his lips but not slipping inside. Taking the hint, I motion for him to stay as I go back to the open box of his. I grab the pacifier I'd seen and open the packaging.

When I walk back over to him with it in plain sight, he smiles at me so brightly, I feel like I'm invincible.
